So I finally got around to finishing this larger still-life that I actually started last year. For some reason, I often get 90% of the way through a painting, and the last 10% becomes the most grueling to get through. But I thought it was worth finishing, if at least for no other reason than to discipline myself to finish what I've started! :)

Plein air painting in winter
I posted this image on Facebook over a month ago. My intention was to post it to my blog as well, but a few days after this photo was taken of my set-up from a short stint painting out of doors in twenty-six degree weather, my husband went in for emergency double-bypass surgery. So, needless to say, I'm way behind in posting this to my blog! I decided to post it anyway, as a reminder of painting in cold weather and some of the "warm" memories it brings back (ha, ha)! Now that it is March, I'm hoping for some "fair" weather to paint outside again!

Oscar
I haven't done many pet portraits in recent years, but I did manage to finish up this portrait of a beloved dog that my cousin and his wife lost about two years ago. I'm currently waiting for the painting to dry, and I'll then varnish it and send it off to them. They have seen the photo of it, and are thrilled. Doing a commission that makes a client happy is very much worth the effort!

Lunken Airfield Study
I am finally getting my blog up and running once again after a long absence! I look forward to posting new work and writing about my process. This small study was a recent plein air painting that I did in October. Although there are no colorful trees in this piece, I did see a lot of fall color in the grass and distant foliage.
